A New Idea

Saturday, May 03, 2014

Well, this week I am going to try something different. I am going to post a few verses for you to look up! Then, if you looked them up, you can comment below and tell me a few of your thoughts on the verses. I would like to see what other peoples thoughts are on these verses, and if you do comment, I will take your thoughts (with your permission) and do a post about them next week. Your thoughts can be long, short, or whatever!! Also, if you have a few verses you are puzzling about, please send them in and maybe someone can help you understand! So, here we go!!
Look up:

I have no idea what any of these verses mean, do you have any idea?? What do you think they mean? There isn't any theme for these verses, just random verses that pop out at me! :) Well, if you are interested look these verses up and comment below before next week! When I do the post about your thoughts, with your permission. I will include your first name, and your blog address, (if you have a blog.) That's it! I hope you will send some thoughts in, or verses that you would like to know more about. I would love to hear from you! What do you think of this idea??
Love in Christ,
Sarah

  1. Proverbs 11:9a
"With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbour,"

I'd say it has something to do with speaking evil of anyone... and that is the sort of thing a godless person would do... and that destroys people.

  4. Hi!

I think that is a wonderful idea! I have some thoughts that I would like to share with you, and you are more than welcome to post them if you would like. Also, I can't believe you have 50 posts already! Great job! That is a big landmark! =D

Okay. First off, for the Proverbs 11:9:

The verse is: "With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape."

Now, I think this verse is talking about an order of events, rather than a comparison. For example, it is like saying, "The dog scared the cat, so the cat climbed the fence." Rather then, "The dog buries his bone, and the cat licks himself."

In this verse it is talking about a godless man and a righteous man. Now the godless man is out to destroy his neighbor. But he is using a very dangerous weapon. He is not using a weapon that hurts the body, or the physical world. No, he is using something much more dangerous...WORDS! Words as very powerful things. They can kill, and bring to life. They can make someone so driven with passion that they are ready to fly across the world in an heartbeat, but yet a second later make the vey same person sure that nothing is possible, and that life is meaningless. Words can change hearts and minds. Someone who is godless uses their words for evil, not good. That is what this verse is telling us: that the godless are going out to destroy his neighbor with his mouth; or words. He wants to make him think that everything is futile; that there is no God and that man is meaningless. Some people will believe him. They will be destroyed and even Christians have been turned astray by false words.

But, that is not the end. There is a righteous man, too! And he knows that the godless are out to destroy him, so he is prepared. When the godless come at him with false lies and fallacies, this wise man is so grounded in the Word of God that he knows it is wrong! He can see the holes in their theories and put them to rest in his own mind, and hopefully, in the minds of others. By being knowledgeable in the word of God, he was able to escape from the godless' grasp. Knowledge in the LORD is essential. There are a lot of false teachers out there that say things that SOUND true. They use words we like, such as: Jesus, Salvation, etc. Because they sound good, we listen to them, and sometimes we don't even realize that their teaching is off. But, if we are grounded in the Word of God and learning about him, we will be able to tell more easily when something is a little fishy. The godless are out to trick us, but we serve a God of truth!

Proverbs 11:9- "With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape."

  5. I think this idea is amazing! It can help us all try to understand God's word! Thank you! Also I do like your new blog design, and your profile picture. :)
I have a few thoughts on Proverbs 16:31. The gray hair it's talking about, I don't think it's literal. It's symbolizing older people, who are wise. So the gray head, meaning wisdom, is a crown of glory! Is that clear? :)
This is such a good idea!

  6. Hey Sarah,

Love the new blog!!!! You picked quite the toughies for verses.
    Proverbs 19:17
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

I think it means that when we, like the verse said, have pity on the poor, God will repay us. It may not happen in this life, but in heaven.

P.S. You can put this in your post if you want.

  7. Hi!
My verse is:" the hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness." basically, you can be called wise, and actually be a fool. It's like evolution..... A man can say all these things and be smart, but he's actually really silly, because he doesn't believe in God.

    In Christ,
    Suzy.
