success || on the radio

After you set out all your brushes, paints, water and paper you have to decide what to paint. Sometimes inspiration just comes, sometimes you have to randomly start drawing something. Watercolor does take a while to paint, but it's very relaxing and enjoyable. :D Above you can see some of my art... ;)

Today I tried curling my hair again, surprisingly, this time it worked. I think last time when I tried too big chunks of hair, this time I tried smaller and it curled much easier. Actually, when I do curl my hair, it lasts for a long time, normally into the next day. Curling it didn't take too long for me, and I tried curling it the same day I washed my hair (normally I had tried second day hair, as people had said worked better). Not sure it that made a difference or not. lol.

Yesterday Julia and I were making dinner, (which was meatball subs with potato salad) we had the radio on (duh!) and the challenge they were doing was on. It's a challenge called Bible or Not, where they give a phrase and you have to say whether you think it's in the Bible, or not. To get in, you have to be the fifth caller. Well, Julia grabbed the phone and dialed the number and ran up stairs. I continued making the potato salad until I heard a sibling saying that Julia got on the radio. Sure enough, she had! She ended up winning a new music CD by someone she doesn't even know...supposed to be one of the top CD's..and was upset she didn't get something by Josh Wilson. LOL. Oh, Julia. ;)

do you use a curling wand, or iron?
have you ever gotten on the radio?

  1. So cool! Actually, for this last Christmas Eve I used a curling Iron for the first time, but I noticed my hair is more curly when I don't use it. We used to listen to this Christian Radio station called 'Joy, 102.5' and they would ask you where a bible verse was located, for a prize. My brother Josh called (and won) so many times that after awhile the radio host actually knew it was him before he said anything! So funny :D.

    1. well, that's a neat name for a radio station! :D LOL! That is hilarious! Julia has called mannnyyy times and won, but there are so many people who do it, they can't possibly remember everyone. It's also super hard to be the 5th caller, everyone wants to get on the radio! lol.

  2. Those pictures look great!
I use a curling wand when i curl my hair. (Which is hardly ever :P) And no, I have never been on the radio. It sounds terrifying though:P Just thinking about all the people that might be listening to you.............
Have you ever been on the radio?

Ooh, yay!! Using smaller sections definitely helps.

Oh my goodness, that's so hilarious about the radio station!! XD I was on Radio Disney one time, that was the highlight of my middle school life haha.

  6. Your water color paintings look splendid. Great job! I can't even make something look like I want it to be that something. I'll start out wanting to paint a cup and it will turn out to be a swing! Lol!

    1. Thanks, Bess! <3 Well, some things inspire us to make other things! Art doesn't have to be perfect, I mean, look at the abstract art some people do. Art is supposed to be unique. :D

      Delete
    2. Yes, mine is very unique! I'm a natural at abstract.

    3. lol! I'd love to see some of your art! Do you paint, or draw?

  7. Firstly, your art is amazing!! I especially love the last picture. I would imagine you're cold a lot because both pictures are of tea. ;)
Second, congrats to Julia! That is fantastic that she got on the radio and WON!
My mom used to win stuff on the radio ALL. THE. TIME. Concert tickets, passes to the ice skating rink, even a gift card to a jewelry store. Unfortunately for me, most of this stuff happened before I was born or when I was too young to really care. XD
Maybe your sister will end up liking the singer, whoever they are, more than Josh Wilson. Although, judging from what she's said about him lately, I doubt that..... ;)

Well, totally. JULIA ALWAYS WINS. lol, okay, not always. In fact, I've beaten her in summer reading many years, in card games (we make an unbeatable team together tho), in follower count (lol!), and such. ;)
lol! I've won a couple giveaways, but I don't normally win things. ;)
I highly doubt it also. LOL!

    1. Thank you! lol, that's a very good question actually. It's hot chocolate..Julia said it was coffee, and I said, "no, it's hot chocolate." After all, I'm the artist. ;)

      Thanks for nominating me! <3

  11. Few days ago we were playing around with heatless curls. We bought some foam curlers and it looks like the curls would have worked, but we got tired of waiting for them to dry and took them out early. Oops!
Congradulations Julia. I hope she enjoys the cd even though it isn't the one she wanted!

    1. ahh, yes, it's hard not to take them out too early. lol! It is worth the wait though. ;)

    1. Thanks, Rachel! oh, yes, and it does take a while. It is extremely enjoyable though. Don't you just love to have unlimited colors to make? I mean, it's not like oil paints. With watercolor you can mix everything. XD

      Delete
    2. Yesss! I know what you mean! Oils are extremely hard to work with and they make such a mess! Watercolors are much easier in that sense :)

      Delete
    3. With watercolors I didn't even have to buy a special watercolor notebook. lol. I got one with really thick paper for $4. I did buy 90lb. paper and tried that out, it's nice for some really special things—but I feel more relaxed working in my notebook. Do you paint often?

      Delete
    4. That's so neat!! I really love notebooks because they're so easy to compile your work and you can look back at the art quickly! I only have a drawing sketchbook because the paper is pretty thin. I would love to find one for watercolors though! I'm trying to get into watercolor more, but I never wait long enough for the previous color to dry and then the colors run together. . . I should work on my patience! :) I like working with oil paint and acrylics on some thick canvas paper I have. Those seem to be a lot harder for some reason though! I can't really figure out why XD Do you like Oil or Acrylic?

      Delete
    5. oh yeah, and fun to flip back. Sometimes if you do different sheets they get lost. :P It's fun to see how you improved anyways.
I have multiple sketch books. ;P I have mannyyyy art supplies I've collected. Watercolors, brushes, colored pencils, sketching pencils, watercolor pencils, that sort of thing. :)
lol! I don't usually wait either. ;P I don't use a ton of paint so I don't usually have to wait. I usually dab it with a towel so it dries nicely. Yes, yes, it is hard to wait. ;P If you see my latest post on my blog, I posted a photo of my planner—I painted the '2016' cover. I like painting my own covers.
I've never tried oil or acrylic actually, my older sister tried them a few years ago and didn't like them. She says she likes watercolor much better.
What other sort of artish (not a word, I know) things do you do? I enjoy sketching, tho, I'm not super good at it. ;)

    6. That's a good idea not to use a lot of paint! :) I'll be sure to check out that post! Yeah, oil is really hard and takes forever to dry! It literally takes about 3-4 days! XD Acrylics are okay, but I think i prefer watercolors! I've gotten in realistic portrait drawing type stuff. I posted about one I recently did on my blog. :) It's really fun to think of different faces and poses and stuff! I also am really in fashion drawing, like sketching out people with different outfits. I'm not so much into the fashion part as I am in the whole. I recently did a series inspired by the characters in Inside Out. :)
What kind of sketching do you like? :)

    7. It's also better for if you aren't using actual watercolor paper all the time. ;) :D I wanted to get some white acrylic to be able to paint stars on my watercolors. I thought that looked oh-so-cool. I enjoy doing wreaths, and painting faces and such. :D I saw that, it was so neat!
I enjoy doing faces. I can never make them look like anyone, but it's fun to make characters for books. :D Have you ever painted actual characters from a book you've read?

      Delete
  13. Yes, I know what you mean! :) Now I feel like doing some watercolor! :) Yeah, white paint can actually be pretty handy. I use it even in some of my drawings, like when an outfit has some sort of white part in it. I would really love to find some other way to draw with white, like maybe a white gel pen, but I've never seen one before. XD
Yes, I actually have, sort of! I did this art project at my co-op where I painted a background (I think it was with tempera paint) and then after it dried, we drew people with pen and left it uncolored. We cut them out and put them on the painting, so the people really popped! I did the characters from the Book of Three series. (The series that has the Black Cauldron in it) Have you ever read those books? They are soooo good! I'm actually on the last one right now!

    1. Wouldn't it be awesome if they sold individual tubes of watercolor? ;) :D oh, actually a white gel pen does exist. I saw a tutorial online..she used white acrylic paint for the stars and she also used a white gel pen for smaller stars. It looked super cool. :D

That's so cool! :D :D I've actually never heard of them before..isn't it awesome when you finish something and you actually like it? ;) I've been enjoying painting little random things lately..do you paint landscapes?

      Delete
    2. Yes, It would be oh so handy! :) Really?! Wow, I guess I should look an Amazon for some maybe? :)
Yes, makes you feel like your time was well spent! :) I've tried a bit of watercolor in the last few days... it didn't really turn out how I want it to. I started one project and it was turning out terrible so I put it away XD I started a second different one later and that one was better then the first but still kind of wonky. I don't think I'm that good at painting, I feel like I just can't get the brush to do what I want it to! XD I may stuck to drawing for the time being :)
I actually have done a few oil landscapes a few years ago when there was a class at my co-op. I tried oil painting a landscapes recently though and, yeah it was so so great :) If I could paint anything in the world though, it would be landscapes! Have you done any landscapes? I saw you do watercolor calligraphy sort of stuff! That is so neat!! You should do a tutorial sometime :)

    3. I think you could also use a white sharpie..depending on what you are using it for, as long as you get the ultra fine ones. XD
Isn't that so frustrating? When you do something and it doesn't work, and you waste paper. :P I just love painting, I feel the power in my hands. :D Drawing is fun, I think my eraser marks turn the paper grey though. :P lol!
Really? That sounds like such fun! I tried a landscape, but it didn't turn out too well. I would like to try painting a tree again though, like a pine. I did a different sort of tree that I just love how it turned out. XD
I like lettering, so I just mixed it with painting! It's super easy, and takes no time. :D I should! It may be hard to take photos and paint, tho, it might work if I set up my tripod. XD Do you like painting peoples faces, or leaving them faceless mostly? Do you like painting/drawing hair?

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I've tried a few different white paint pens and they ll smear my colored pencil or don't show up over the colored pencil! XD I should definitely try that :)
Yesssss! I actually "stretched" my paper the other day because I didn't want it to buckle because it was only 90lbs and it took so long and then I wasted it anyways! XD That's so great! :) Haha! That happens to me sometimes! Or when I press down to hard on the paper and so when I erase it and color it with pencil I can see the lines still! It's so annoying! XD
Really? I love drawing/painting trees! I don't know why, I just have felt in a tree mood recently. :) That is so cool! It's really pretty :) Yeah, it can also be hard to get the right lighting and proportion and make it blend XD There's so much to think about! :) I've never actually painted peoples faces, but when I draw I always leave them faceless unless I'm doing a realistic portrait, obviously! :P Hair is okay. . . when I draw it, it takes a lot of time though! And then when I layer the colors of the hair to give it depth?! It takes forever! :) What about you?

      Delete
    5. I saw on your blog you had Prisma colored pencils, how many pencils do you have of those?
I've never tried stretching paper before, lol..I have 90lb paper and also 140lb paper. I often use non watercolor paper for playing around with, it works since I don't layer much. :D
I'd like to try painting a tree on my thicker watercolor paper. Do you like more textures watercolor paper, or non textured? haha, I know, I often leave them faceless because I worry I'll ruin them. ;) I like sketching hair, I just loveeeee doing braids. XD They are so fun to do. I'll have to send you a photo of some braids I painted and some others I sketched. :D Do you have a lot of art supplies?
