22 pounds of blueberries || 45 minutes

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Weeeellll, if you ever want to know what it’s like blueberry picking on a hot, steaming day, (for real guys. Our window. was. steaming,) with the sun pouring down on you—

Well, I could tell you.

“It closes in 45 minutes,” the people running the blueberry farm looked quite doubtful that we could fill 20 (ended up with 22) pounds of blueberries in that time.

We are the sort of competitive girls that won’t give up and just fill up half and go home because WE SERIOUSLY chose THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE SUMMER TO PICK BLUEBERRIES. Nooooooo, we are the sort of girls that just HAVE to fill it all up in 45 minutes to prove those doubtful people wrong. So, yes. We did prove them wrong in case you are wondering.

It was hot. Like, HOT HOT.

(yes all you people living in Texas who are laughing at me stop it. I know. If I came to where you live I’d die. ‘kay? I would.) Maybe it’s just a relative thing? Like, you get used to where you live...*stops thinking* the heat is getting to me.

Has your window ever steamed with heat?
Did you laugh at me when I said it’s hot at 94 degrees (WHICH REALLY IS HOT)? Honest?

  2. It seems like we always chose the hottest days of summer to pick blueberries too! I don't recall the windows ever steaming quite like that, but 94 degrees IS hot. I agree with that. And I didn't laugh. xD I think that 22 pounds is quite impressive- nice job!

    1. IKR? This year we picked a pretty nice day to pick strawberries--strawberries are MUCH worse to pick in heat. At least blueberries provide a bit of shade. ;)

  3. 94 degrees is hot, and when it's humid that makes it even worse.

I haven't seen windows fogged up from the heat, but one time my glasses got blasted with hot air and steamed up when I got into a car.

    1. ugh. Yes. The humidness. But I WON'T complain anymore. I'll take heat rather than cold. xD

lol!! The other day I got in our car that had been sitting on our driveway in the open heat and breathing was hard. ;P Ah. What would we do without air conditioning?! xD

  6. I've always wanted to go to a blueberry farm!!! And this sounds so fun, despite the heat!

I live in the South, so 94 is not very noteworthy around now. That doesn't mean that it doesn't feel hot though!

    This post feels like summer.

    1. It's SO amazing. Store blueberries are NOTHING to ones you can pick yourself. :D

I don't think I could live in weather much hotter. Well, I'd just have to have every. single. fan running in the house. ;)

  7. 94 degrees is pretty hot! It's about the same here -- and oh my goodness! :P
Blueberries are hard to pick -- I congratulate you on picking 22 pounds! I have to say that I prefer strawberries. ;)

    1. I only wish it could be warm all year--then it'd be fine. Or maybe, shorter winters? ;P
Really? I think blueberries are the easiest--and I tend to eat lots. xP Strawberries are super good too..I can never decide. ;)

  8. haha, you girls are VERY competitive :) I went blueberry picking once before with a bunch of friends, and it was quite interesting. 1/4 of the people were goofing off, 1/2 of the people were halfish working, and the rest were just picking away like machines. (I was caught red-handed sneaking off. WHAT CAN I SAY. We actually had some friends that lived right down the road so we wanted to "get a drink." ;) But wow, I don't think we went on the hottest day and we felt hot. Kuddos to you!!

(GIRL 94 degrees is hot...but we're over here with a realfeel of 113 degrees...no i'm not baking at all. aha.)

    1. I know, I know..lol. *tsk tsk* YOU SNUCK OFF?! hahaha, I brought water along with me. It ended up being pretty gross because the heat got to it, but, whatever. ;)

.....uh...I think that's when I'd try to cook an egg on the sidewalk. I still have to try that..

  10. Nice photos! I've never been blueberry picking - there are no farms like that around.. But I have been blackberry picking because they grow wild here, so I can agree that picking 22 pounds is impressive. Good on you. :) (And I would totally do the same, by the way - prove your speed-picking skills.)

Hot weather isn't my favourite either; it definitely inhibits thinking. I didn't laugh, but we can get like ten degrees (celsius) hotter here in summertime. :)

    1. oohh, blackberry picking sounds fun. The bushes aren't as friendly as blueberries though. At least blueberries won't prick and scratch you. ;)

yikkkeeesss. That's hot. But, hot is better than extreme cold in my mind. xD

    1. It's pretty bad..like, when you are inside and it doesn't feel particularly hot or cold--then you go outside and it's a blast of hot hair. Once you go back in, the house feels freezing compared to outside. lol!

      Thanks so much, Kara! <3

  12. Ooh, I've picked pounds and pounds of blueberries in weather just like that, too. :) It was HOT and not especially worth it for me since I don't like blueberries. :P

Oh, and 94 degrees? There was a time when I would have called that REALLY HOT, but when you've lived in the Las Vegas area for two years, you quickly learn that REALLY HOT usually refers to around 100+, and even 115 degrees or more. o.o Yes, it was a very tortuous summer at times here. BUT ALABAMA WILL BE COOLER. (although I'm not looking forward to the humidity...)

But YES. Way to go! You showed those people that you could do it, huh. :D

    1. YOU DON'T LIKE BLUEBERRIES WHAT HOW CAN YOU NOT. *struggles to breathe* okay, okay. We can still be friends. But, WHY. You do like strawberries, right?! xD xD

*jaw drop* HOW ARE YOU STILL LIVING LIKE WHAT. Because I would seriously live walking around with a fan or something. YIKES.

      *fistbump* totally. xD

  13. 22 pounds of blueberries = sweating in that hot weather = worth it! I kind of did laugh at the hot weather-- when I was in the Philippines last year, it was roughly 90, as a baseline, but since I had to travel across the main city there through their subway system, it was worse. Imagine over 500 people in one station and there is little room for personal space and the worse part is, there is no AC, at all.

I usually laugh at people though when they complain that twenty degrees is super cold though. XD It's really not that bad! If it's not snowing at it's zero degrees outside, there's a handful who will be wearing shorts and tees.

    xoxo Morning

    1. That sounds...lovely. Not. :P uh, yeah. Definitely something that isn't on my buck list. xD

Oh, well. 20 degrees is reasonable cold. It's just when it get's into the negatives when it's gone too far. But the shorts and tee's at 0 degrees. Uh. No. That's me cocooned in a blanket for winter. xD xP

  15. I live in Wales, where hot weather is not exactly common! (Put it this way, it's supposed to be the middle of Summer and I've spent most of my day in a coat and jeans...)
Congratulations on the blueberry picking, it looks idyllic despite the heat!
