festival || lost childhood

The other day, we went to a festival that we recently discovered...I was quite intrigued at the calligraphy part. A lady there did real calligraphy of peoples names-each of us got one. :) It was sooo amazing to actually watch someone do it with the authentic pen and ink. There were also all sorts of looms there - AMAZING. I've always been a crafty person and all the things I was interested in were in that building. It was really neat to watch someone spin wool, how neat is that?

A thrift shop that we have gone to for years is closing down in a few days. They are turning it into a Goodwill. :P Lately, it seems as if many places we have gone to when we were younger have closed down. Such as earlier this year, a 5&10 shop closed down, and an old store we went to in our town did many years ago, along with the movie rental place, they tore down a large clock tower in our town.. :( Seems like everything is being replaced with bigger stores, such as Walmart and Goodwill. I always loved those cute shops, they were always different and fun.

I've been looking around at the color pencils..you know, the 50 and 100 packs. SO. AWESOME. Imagine all those colors?! I have 12 at the moment, (my sister got the 24 pack on sale) so sometimes I borrow some of her different colors. I find drawing/sketching pretty fun. I go for the more cartoonish/real look-because it's less detail and more fun to color. ;) Once I get some good photos, I'll have to show them to you all.

what are some of your favorite places you went to as a child?
do you like colored pencils?

  1. Change can be good, but it can also be hard. I moved away from the town I grew up in when I was nearly 15, and it's always weird going back and seeing all the places that no longer exist. Kind of sad.

I am the worst sketcher in the whole of the universe. But I look forward to seeing your pictures and admiring your work!

    Have a wonderful week =)

    1. Yes..that must have been hard. My family moved when I was a toddler, so I don't really remember it. :)

LOL! I'm sure that isn't true...haha, I'll be sure to get on it then. ;) <3

  2. That calligraphy is absolutely gorgeous! It must have been really cool to go there :D And oh my Rowling in first grade if you had those 250 pack color pencils you were like the coolest kid. I still love color pencils, even though I'm a horrible artist xD

    1. Do you do it yourself? :) Yes, it makes you feel strangely old...Like when the american dolls you used to have are now "antique." whaaa? ;)

  4. It's weird to see old stores close down and places to be remodeled! Both my school and the public library is currently under renovation and it's weird to see the insides slowly turn into something different then before or for new places to pop up... Like, for instance, this year, our school finally has a cafeteria, unlike last year, everyone had to either eat in a classroom, go out to eat, or (like what 50 percent of the school did) sit along the lockers, eating lunch on the floor. It's ridiculous. To have an actual calligrapher actually write your name in pen and ink sounds so amazing! I love what she did for your name <3

    xoxo Morning

    1. I know! Seriously?! Were you part of that 50 percent to sit on the floors? LOL! It sounds like a fun ridiculous though...It was amazing to see her do it, she said it didn't hurt her hand at all anymore, and she had already done 500-600 just that day! Yikes... :D it would be fun to see all those names though. ;) Me too, isn't it gorgeous? :D

  5. Just today we went to the town we used to shop in before we moved three years ago! It was fun to reminisce-- not much changed but several new buildings were being built. ;) Wow, that lady's calligraphy is gorgeous! I also really love your second picture; you captured the clouds well. :)

  6. This is a wee bit random, but knowing your interest in hand lettering, I thought maybe you might be interested in this. It's a month long course/practice run by a blogger on hand lettering. I'm doing it and it's pretty good so far. It only takes a few minutes a day and it looks like it's going to be amazing! It is three days in to it but I'm pretty sure you could still get involved! You might be busy but I thought I'd let you know just in case you might be interested. :) Have a great day and God bless ya!

  7. Oh, how fun to go to a festival! That lady did a beautiful job with your name! That's something I'd want to keep forever. ;) We've gone to an open house that they have at a Christian summer camp near us, and there is a man there that does caricatures, so it's interesting to see your face in cartoon. :) It's also interesting to see how you've changed over the years if you have him do yours every year. Although only one of these recent years have a actually had the guts to sit and let him do mine while everybody watches. :p
You did a great job with your second picture, the clouds are beautiful. It reminds me of Psalm 19:1-"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."
I love you lots, dear friend!
    Love, Georgie

  8. Hi Sarah! I'm Sunny, and I found your blog (and your sister's) a couple weeks ago. Keep up the good work....I love reading all your posts. :)
My favorite places I went as a child? Hmm...well of course the doctor's office.... Haha, just kidding. I used to like to go to the local park when I was little because there was a playground and swings. :) I also liked going to McDonald's to get a milkshake. The ice cream machine always seemed to be broken when we went there though.... :P
Enough about me. That's a shame your thrift shop is closing. :( And the 5 & 10 closed too? What a bummer! It sounds like a cute little shop.
And colored pencils are awesome! The only thing I don't like about them is that they need to be sharpened all the time. :P What kind of colored pencils do you use? I use Crayola. :)

    1. Hello, Sunny! Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy them! <3 lol, who likes doing to the doctors? :P Yes, the new Goodwill is opening up soon though...it will be interesting to see if they have changed it much. :) Oh, it really was an adorable shop! A craft shop. gah! I love craft shops. ;)
I know, right?! I use Crayola, I do want to get a larger pack soon though. How many pencils do you have in your pack?

    2. Aw, no problem! I check them your blogs every day. ;)
Haha, I know right? I still don't like to go. :P Even if it's just for a checkup!
For your sake I hope they don't change it too much....because then if they do it might make you miss the thrift shop more.
Oh my gosh!!! I love craft shops too! If I lived there I'd probably be in tears over the closing. ;)
I hope you can!! Right now I have 24. :) The container (or whatever you call it) fell apart though, so I just keep them in an old purple pencil case in my room. :)

    3. Yes, we have yet to go to the new shop, but I'm excited to see it. ;)
hahaa, yes. :P It was a pretty awesome craft shop. ooh, I hope to get the 50 pack. How are you enjoying your drawing?

    4. I'll admit....I haven't worked on it in two weeks. ;) But I'll be stuck inside this weekend (because it's going to be really cold where I live) so maybe I'll work on some new drawings then!
      How about you?
I hope you're able to get the 50-pack too!!! :D
