i diy highlighted my hair || i knowwwww

I've always wanted to highlight my hair but whenever I looked at the prices at the hair salons I cringed. So I got this idea to use

a kit. Great idea, right?

So I dragged, (actually she was willing. who doesn't want to dye their sisters hair when they have no experience whatsoever?!

boy I trusted her *sits here thinking*) anyways, my older sister ended up doing it on me. I got the "blonde" highlighting kit and

threw out the directions and decided to use a youtube video.

Trust youtube, right?! come on, EVERYONE KNOWS IT DONT LIE YOUVE DONE IT *crosses arms*

Okay, if you have blonde hair GET PURPLE HAIR DE-BRONZER SHAMPOO, 'KAY? *shakes you until you understand* I didn't

know this until I watched the video AND THANK GOODNESS I DID. Like, it apparently takes all the orange out of your hair and

stuff. It's legit purple. (I seriously have no idea how that stuff doesn't dye your hair).

So you may be looking at these pictures like, "yeah," *scoffs* "doesn't look any different." WELL IT DOES. 'KAY? It's a lot blonder

and highlightyish (that should be a word) but "still natural looking" as my friend said (she was worried my hair would turn green

come on, it couldn't do THAT, right?..)

After the day at the beach I got sun burnt. I kid you not I was as red as a beet. FOR REAL. *whispers* i didn't wear sunscreen.

STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT I KNOW I FORGOT I KNOW IT WAS STUPID NOW MY FACE IS PEELING GAH

have you ever dyed or highlighted your hair?

have you ever got SUPER sun burnt?

  1. GAH YOUR HAIR IS SO PERFECT AND HIGHLIGHT-EY. I tried to diy highlight my hair once, but you could barely tell.
I actually don't get very badly sunburnt unless I get burned multiple days in a row once, only then does it start to get all gross and peel-y and gah.

    THOSE PICTURES ARE GOALS BTW.

    1. GAH THANK YOU SO MUCH. I tried the lemon stuff too and it didn't really do anything for me--the box kit I got definitely made a difference.
Well I had been swimming straight for a couple hours--but yeah, I don't normally get burnt either. :P

GAH THANKS SO MUCH I DIDNT TAKE ANY OF THEM. lol. all credits go to Bree. xD

    1. thanks, Alea! <3 I've never done it before either--I can't say I'd ever drastically dye my hair, I just thought I'd like to bring out the blonde. :D ah, yes. We got some aloe that had this numbing stuff in it for the pain and my eyes started watering so I was like crying the whole ride home. lol! xD

(I am *ahem* the "your friend", aren't I? *smiles too mushily for anyone to understand* thinks quietly how awkward it would be if I wasn't. Thinks that can't be possible.)
    -Anyways, your friend.

  4. Your hair is really pretty! I recently highlighted the tips of my hair, but that's all I've ever done. ;)

Ooooh.. I know how much a really bad sunburn hurts! I got one a while ago from being on the beach ALL day with NO shade at all... it's not a lot of fun. :P

    1. oohh, highlighting tips is nice (then you don't have to touch it up).

ugh IKR? ooohhh, that sounds bad. :P But really, when I get sun burnt it really doesn't hurt--don't know why.

  5. Ahhhh it looks so good! I really want to highlight my hair actually, I wish I was brave enough to do it by myself, my hair's super dark so I'm scared it won't look natural. do you have any tips?

    love this post (: xx

    1. You should totally do it--I wasn't afraid at all Julia and she was like, "ARENT YOU SCARED?" and I was like, "should I be?" lol

well, if you hair is such a dark color it would probably be good to go to a hair salon just to ASK someone what color you should get. My sister (who has dark hair as well) recently got her hair bayalaged at a salon and they just bleached her hair apparently so I guess you do a light color? I had my normal hair color as a backup BTW. xD You could also google it or find some youtube videos as I did.

thanks so much, Arushee! <3 <3

  6. I haven't gotten super sunburned, but I still have prominent tan lines... from last May. Dying hair would be so much fun! Sadly, I can't highlight it (because my hair is as light as it can be, the struggles of having dark hair) although if I had to choose a theme to highlight strands of my hair, I'd defintely want several strands to be the color of the aurora borealis!

    xoxo Morning

P.S. I recently collaborated with a bunch of bloggers on a zine project which is currently viewable on my blog, and I was wondering if either you or Julia would be interested in joining for a future issue? It'll be fun! xD

    1. lol! after I got sunburnt I'm not super tan on my face and neck. xD You could always give yourself bronze highlights--my sister did sorta that. :D

The collaboration looks totally awesome! Julia said to DM you on Instagram but we're both totally interested. :D

lolol. funny thing is, I wasn't worried a bit--it never even crossed my mind that it possibly COULD go wrong. xD

  8. It really looks lovely and highlightyish for sure.
Yep, I spent a day at the beach with my youth group once and we all got burnt, red as tomatoes. On the face of one of my friends, you could actually see where he had applied some sunscreen and then where he hadn't. It was hilarious because we could all laugh at each other.
Random story there, I know, and I'm sorry.

    But I loved your post.
