*READS ALL THE BOOKS* || should I make a pinterest board for my novel??

Friday, May 26, 2017

basically I just found out summer reading starts on the 10th next month and I've been reading nonstop  (aka 6 books in the last five days + working on alphaing three other book - which has been usual for considering my late lack of reading) and just realized I shoulda been hoarding the books for then #whoops. I actually just ordered a bunch more from the library tho *cheers* xD but yes THE CRAZINESS SHALL BEGIN - actually, maybe not so much?...

if you've been reading my blog long enough you may recall the time two years ago when Julia and I finally had to call a truce at 1 am to stop reading bc we both had headaches from reading non stop (we were SO CLOSE.) AND THEN SHE WON BY ONE HOUR
(and somehow we never thought to split the prize? #blameitonthebooks) but yeah, it's gonna be different this year BC JULIA WENT AND GREW UP ON ME

okay, she didn't really grow up. (she'll never do that like, like, ha #burn) but she did go and graduate on me so now she's too old to enter the teen summer reading.
*doesn't exactly know how to react to this* she's no longer in my group aka THERE GOES MY COMPETITIVELY MOTIVATIONAL VICTIM. haha, it'll be different, but interesting. maybe less of a headache? *laughs*

also, my older sis found this online and omw okay, we all need one of these:

IT'S A DARTH VADER TOASTER PEOPLE! link Like your toast on the darker side? A handy dial provides temperature adjustment.' you should also look up the waffle maker one, and then the light saber tongs *nods* xD

p.s.
so I was curious. with my books, I've never actually made a full pinterest board for a novel. *ducks from collected writers gasps* I know, I know. I guess I just haven't really tried, idk? so I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to make/do one, and are they even really worth it??

p.p.s sorry for the delayed post, I have a cold and things have been crazy busy here xD

are you doing summer reading this year??
do you make pinterest boards for your books?

  1. wooooah Ju's too old now?! O.O I'm gonna guess that she hates that... XD (I wouldn't like it haha) Speaking of reading, how is the reading challenge going?!

UM YES MAKE A BOARD. I rly like having my book boards! It's fun! DO IT. Also, it's rly cool as a reader when an author has a Pinterest board for their book... Advice? Haha well...Idk, start with finding pictures of what your characters look like? And then setting, and Pinterest has a lot of cool one-sentence pins, which can give a feel for the story. I have a lot of those on my Chosen board!

  7. Oh my word, that Darth Vader toaster is fantastic! It reminds me of the one my youth group got our pastor, only we were able to make it so his face was on it. Our pastor's face, that is.

What's summer reading? I mean, besides reading in the summer. Is it a library thing?

YES YOU SHOULD MAKE A PINTEREST BOARD They're fantastic. It's nice to get all the visiuals for the characters in one place and you can create the mood of your book and just find scene/place inspiration and it's amazing. 10/10 recommend.

    1. isn't?? LOL I didn't know you could even do that. personally, I like the ones where you can see the toast toasting. I MEAN IT JUST MAKES SENSE lol

summer reading is a library program where basically you catalog how many books you read or hours (depends on the library) and then you sign up to get prizes and such. it's awesome - you should totally see if your library does it!

OKAY OKAY I GUESS I SHOULD xD true, true. those are some good points. thanks, Brianna! :D

  10. Gorgeous photos as always, Sarah!! Love how you captured the water droplets.
Oh my goodness...that toaster! A friend of ours got married, and her new brothers- and sisters-in-law really wanted to get her a Darth Vader toaster...I think it even made his deep breathing sound when it popped up. BUT she very much disliked the idea, and they didn't end up getting it for her. ☺
Great post, Sarah! (but oh, isn't it sad when you grow up and can't do some of the contests you used to be able to do?)
    Love ya,

  11. Sadly, I've grown up too - not completely, of course, but enough that I can't participate in the summer reading competition. (It had short story competitions, too.) :'(

    As for Pinterest... *crazed laughter*
I have two boards for my current WIP: one for settings, people that look like my characters, and pictures that inspire scenes; and one that's my first attempt at an aesthetic story-board (basically pictures that may not be accurate to the plot or the look of my characters, but invoke the /feel/ I'm trying to get in my writing).

I don't know whether that's the kind of thing that would be helpful for you; personally I find that I have trouble imagining settings (in particular), so I need pictures to check. (Also I need an excuse to pin all the things. But we won't go there.)

    1. aww, that's sad! that's so cool tho - they are actually starting up some short story contests for teens in our library as well! although I'm horrible at short stories xP

whooaoaa you are sure organized! scenes are a great idea - I agree on that point. sometimes it's hard to describe things when you don't even have a super clear picture of it yourself. super good idea! and it's true, sometimes I find characters that aren't EXACTLY like my character so it bugs me. but the /feel/ is truth. thanks!

  12. Storyboards are pretty cool! Everyone does 'em differently; some more aesthetic photos, some more character photos. Whatever you like works. :P And because I just cleaned up allllll my boards; I'mma share the link to my Pinterest so you can enjoy it. :P Lol. https://www.pinterest.com/CelticgalforYah/
